Naperville, IL has been voted one of the best places to live in the country, for 5 years+
We operate a Home & Business Security Camera showroom in a nice area of Naperville. Of course, we have signs all around the business showing that we are a Security camera showroom.
So why do I mention this? It is because of the fact that we have caught more stupid criminals in the parking lot of our facility than we ever would have imagined, considering we have made it VERY OBVIOUS that anyone who comes on our property is being recorded.
Below, you will see a video that we have uploaded to Youtube.com where on a normal Friday, at 4PM, while we were still in the office, someone drove quickly into our property, parking right next to a Harley in the front parking lot. This certainly caught my attention, and caused me to swing the PTZ Camera into action to make sure that he wasn’t going to hit up against the bike…what I saw, I never would have expected.
The vehicle’s occupant was wearing a t-shirt from a local business (just up the street from us), which really made me wonder as to what he was doing in our parking lot. As is customary for vehicles that pull into the lot, we zoomed in on the license plate, for the sake of record-keeping. It actually took me a few moments to actually figure out what was going on. You will notice if you look closely in the video, that the man looks over his shoulder to determine whether anyone was watching, then pulls the door close to him. You can even see a stream…but I really didn’t believe that the man was standing in our parking lot urinating, until I actually saw the puddle forming on the ground that he carefully stepped over.
Obviously, I was a bit dumb-founded that the individual didn’t even attempt to come in and use our bathroom, or drive across the street to his own company and use the bathroom there. It was at this time, that I decided that the Police should be notified, even though I felt a bit stupid reporting it to the police. What exactly do you call in.
The Naperville Police did respond quickly, and with the Hot summer weather, by the time they got there, there wasn’t much of a puddle to view, but once they saw the video, they decided that they certainly would press charges and use the video in court. The Naperville PD caught up with the perp shortly after he turned off of our street, and promptly found that he was already wanted for other charges…so I felt a little bit better about calling for something as dumb as public urination.
So if this is what happens in the parking lot of a Security Camera showroom during business hours, then WHAT HAPPENS AT YOUR BUSINESS WHILE YOU ARE AWAY?
