Why just having an Alarm System is not enough to protect your business

Pizza Store Robbed - Caught on Security Cameras

Pizza Store Robbed - Caught on Security Cameras

A local pizza store that we frequent was robbed this weekend.  It is not the first attempt, but it is the first successful attempt.  This pizza store had an alarm system that was monitored by ADT, and a business security camera system in place.  Unfortunately, the alarm system monitoring from ADT was not effective.   The video showed images of the perpetrators breaking the front door and entering…and you could see them ducking down their heads and turning to run away as the alarm siren sounded.

Normally with an alarm system, this would immediately alert the police.  However, apparently either the ADT monitoring station failed or the equipment failed, because the police were never alerted.  However the perps did not run away, they simply ran to their vehicle in the back of the pizza store and waited to see if the police arrived.  Apparently they suspected that the police would not show up, because if they expected the police to show up, then they would not have sat in their vehicle in the back of the pizza shop in their car for such a long period of time (almost a half hour) before entering the store again.  If they really expected the alarm would alert the police, they probably would have left immediately to avoid detection and capture by the police.

After finding out that the police were not alerted by the alarm, the perpetrators took their time (spending over 4 1/2 hours) removing a TV from the wall as well as other items.  Luckily the security camera system caught everything on camera, providing police with great video footage of the criminals entering, sitting in their car and taking the items from the store.

Alarm systems are an excellent investment, as they can provide immediate alert to police when something happens, but alarms alone are not enough to really protect your business.  Business Security Cameras are an important addition to your current alarm system, providing video footage of what happened, providing evidence for police to use, whether the alarm system alerts the police or not.

Cameras like our CD-9255-4 Varifocal Outdoor Infrared IR security camera provides you with a durable weatherproof outdoor security camera that can give you great footage of your business even in pitch black conditions.  These Infrared cameras can adjust between a 4mm Wide-Angle and a 9mm fixed zoom during installation to provide you with the view you require for your business security camera installation.

Home Security – A serious subject

Garage door keypads might not be a great idea.

We all know that the security of our home is important, but how secure are our homes exactly?  I got a reality check today, when I helped a neighbor who wanted to install a garage door opener keypad outside her home.  I always knew that this would be almost as bad of an idea as putting a key to your door under the welcome mat…but I perhaps did not really understand how similar it was.

It is obvious which buttons are used for your code, since over time the numbers will wear off from the oils on your skin.  But what I didnt realize, was written right in the instructions for the keypad unit.  Pressing and holding the * and # key on the unit will reset the password to 1234 – incase you forget your passcode.  Does that make any sense at all?  If anyone will know that, it would be a thief.

Makes it that much more important to have quality home security cameras in place to help provide evidence and even email alerts when something is happening at your home while you are away.  A camera placed in the garage can let you see if someone is entering through the

garage, and when paired with an Alnet PC-Based DVR Cardor one of our new DVR-2644S H.264 Standalone DVR Recorders, you can even trigger email alerts to send an email to your cell phone when motion is detected while you are away.  Cameras placed in a garage are a great choice for motion email alerts, because there is not any ambient movement in a garage normally, and the door blocks most light, so clouds, rain and other weather conditions will not trigger accidental or repetitive email alerts like an outdoor style camera would.

With these email alerts set up, you could receive an email on your phone with a snapshot attached from the camera.  These email alerts can be useful to let you know if someone is trying to access your home through your garage.

Dumb Criminals – Fannie May Candy Robber

January 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

1-20-09robber2001   A burglar who has been entering businesses through the roof and waiting for employees to open the store in the morning, has been caught on security cameras.  He broke into a Fannie May candy store in Michigan City, IN and waited for the employees to open the store at 9AM.  Just as he was getting ready to hold up the store, he took a few moments to peek at the security camera before putting on his mask.  Hopefully someone will recognize the perp before he ends up getting someone hurt.

Improved AD-2000 Outdoor Armor Dome Camera

Improved AD-2000 Outdoor Armor Dome Camera

Our AD-2000 480 TVL Sony CCD Vandal Resistant Armor Dome Camera has long been a best-selling camera for outdoor and indoor camera installations.  This camera is housed inside a polycarbonate dome and metal housing, providing ultimate impact and tamper protection.  These cameras are especially popular for common area indoor installations where the camera is within reach, such as in apartment complexes, office buildings, schools and more.  These cameras are also popular for outdoor home and business security camera installations where the camera will be mounted to an overhang.

However, we have re-released the AD-2000 camera with marked improvements.  This new design AD-2000 Armor dome camera now has a day/night image sensor, that will provide increased night vision clarity.  This new design Sony CCD image sensor still provides 480 TVL color video during the daytime, but now switches to black and white at night for extreme low-light night vision capabilities.  The new AD-2000 camera has a newly redesigned dome housing, which provides an improved seal for IP66 outdoor weatherproof capabilities.

Check out the AD-2000 Armor Dome camera for your business or home security camera installation today.  These new design cameras from Platinum CCTV will be sure to complete your camera installation in style.

Stupid Criminals – All for a case of beer? On Security Cameras

January 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ok, so how desperate do times need to get before you would walk into a gas station convenience store and steal a case of beer?  Well apparently for some people, times don’t have to be that rough.  Get a load of these brazen thieves.

Yes the clerk actually ran out and did capture their license plates.

This customer is using our Alnet PC-Based DVR system with his old existing cameras.  All of our systems can be retrofitted in place of your older PC-Based or Standalone DVR to provide the benefits of remote access capabilities, still allowing you to use your older business security cameras.  The owner will be upgrading his cameras soon to get even better footage.

Just goes to show, that you don’t have to have the perfect positioning or perfect high dollar cameras to get results with your business security camera system.
